The arts are an integral part of the Grosse Pointe Academy experience, endowing students with creative expression and freedom, confidence and the pursuit of discovered talent. Both open-ended and rigorous, visual 2 and 3D art, performing arts and music, movement, and design are all taken seriously and aligned with each grade level’s curriculum.
Beginning in Montessori Early School and through Middle School, students are encouraged to fearlessly assert themselves through a variety of media, including:
- Dance and theater
- Singing and musical instruments
- Graphic design
- Painting and drawing
- Sculpture and clay work
- Printmaking and fiber work
Performance is a key aspect of art at the Academy. Students learn to not only perform in front of their peers and unfamiliar audiences with confidence, but to draw on this poise in their daily lives. All students are required to participate in their grade’s annual play.
One alumna succinctly put it, “Arts at the Academy gave me the ability to project myself with confidence in a way that people respect.”
Our visual and performing arts curriculum has laid the foundation for alumni to move on to careers as renowned artists, performers, and musicians.
