Returning to School

Our “Returning to The Grosse Pointe Academy: A Comprehensive Guide” outlines the safety protocol and procedures for the 2020-21 school year that will allow us to continue our mission in light of COVID-19. They are a culmination of the State of Michigan’s Safe Schools Roadmap, released on June 30, 2020, CDC guidelines, The Wayne County Public Health Department and the recommendations of The Grosse Pointe Academy’s Reopening of School Task Force.

The document is structured according to the State of Michigan’s Safe Start phases. It is our hope that Michigan continues to stay in Phase 4 or move to Phase 5 by September, so we can welcome students on campus for in-person learning.

Our Montessori Early School for ages 2 1/2 to Kindergarten will remain open during all of Michigan’s Safe Start phases. Should the State of Michigan mandate us to close our Lower and Middle Schools, our online program for these grades (1-8) will closely compare to their on-campus class schedules.

We are very excited to offer students in Grades 1-8, the opportunity to learn while at home, via our new video instruction technology. This state-of-the-art technology will allow students who are high risk, symptomatic, in quarantine or simply not comfortable returning to campus, to interact with their classmates and teachers as they virtually join the classroom LIVE in real time. Details on this program will be shared in the coming weeks.
